Tauhu Goreng

When I was young, I don't fancy Tau Kua (Beancurd cake).  Personally I find there is a smell to it but during our dating days, we chanced upon a push cart in a back alley near Kampong Glam that sells this awesome Tauhu Goreng.

Since then, my whole perception about this smelly taukua changed.  I fell in love with Tauhu Goreng!

A pity that we didn't get to patronize this particular stall for long as the old man soon after passed on.

Adapted: Mrs Lee Cookbook

What you need:

100g Bean Sprouts
1 small cucumber
2 pcs Firm Tofu (Taukua)
Oil for deep frying (I used airfryer)

Peanut Sauce

4 cloves garlic
2 Red Chilli
2 tbsp Palm Sugar
¼ tsp salt
1 tbsp rice vinegar
2 tbsp dark soya sauce
8 tbsp water
160g roasted ground peanut

Method:

Wash cucumber and slice it. Shred it finely.

Place garlic and chilli in a food processor and grind it to a paste.

Put chilli/garlic paste in a saucepan with the rest of the peanut sauce ingredient. Heat up and cook until sugar dissolves completely.

Pat dry tau hu and deep fried until golden brown.

Cut deep fried tauhu into 4.  Place onto a plate and top with sauce and garnish with cucumber shred.

Verdict: Overall, this is far cry from the one I tasted.  The peanut sauce is a total failure and lacks the authentic taste.

  1. Food eaten during dating always tastes the best, even if it is the simplest of things. I think your TG looks tempting though.
